| Canada's First Solar Neighbourhood |
ARISE Technologies Corporation has completed an exciting two-and-a-half year project focused on installing integrated photovoltaic systems on the rooftops of 12 new homes, totalling 42KW of installed Photovoltaic grid-tied systems. This first of its kind project for Canada was built in a new home development in Waterloo, Ontario. The two-and-a-half-year project represents the first demonstration of community-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems in a Canadian neighbourhood. Government of Canada funding comes from the Technology Early Action Measures (TEAM) component of the Climate Change Action Fund (CCAF) and Natural Resources Canada. TEAM funding supports cost-effective technology projects that will lead to significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The demonstration project for integrated PV was completed in March 2000 on a home in Waterloo. It incorporates passive solar design with building integrated PV and a solar thermal water heating system. Our hope is that this new "solar community" project in Waterloo will help bring integrated photovoltaic systems to communities across Canada. Related Links: |
